What Do You See? Red, Red & More Red!
Depth of Red Hair Color
As with all hair color, the natural "depth" (the lightness of darkness) of your hair will contribute to your final result.
Red Undertones
Using permanent haircolor black to very dark brown hair immediately lightens with red undertones. Minerva suggests that you choose the hair color you'd like to achieve and simply accent those beautiful red tones. Because you are working "with" rather than "against" your undertones, your hair color will maintain its beautiful red tones longer.
Red Hair to Auburn
As you begin to lighten your dark hair a bit more, your result will be more auburn than red-often referred to as copper.
Choosing a Red Hair Color
When choosing a red hair color to color your gray/white hair, (especially with 50% gray or more) a darker color-or one with more "depth", will give a better result.
Red Hair Highlights
Too dark? Adding a few red highlights Ð a lighter red or blonds as in dimensional hair color will give you an overall feeling of lightness while effectively covering your gray.

Be sure to do a strand test to preview the lightness or darkness of your own hair.
